How We Began
Free Birdie Natural products started in the kitchen of my home in Tulsa, Oklahoma. With nothing but a dream backing my business, Free Birdie began.
The search for a way to help people live a more natural life style, while maintaining a positive environmental impact was weighing on my mind. Documentaries of children drinking tainted water in other countries, and landfills toppling over with toxic waste made me ill.
Soon I began to read ingredients on everything I thought was eco ok'd & paying attention to packaging on items I bought. There was evidence of chemicals & pollutants in almost everything. Soon the idea hit me like a train, & my solution snapped into place. Realizing I could participate in the larger scale of some social & environmental issues that seem to remain untouched, while making a living keeps my ambitions strong!
How We Make A Difference
Everything down to this very website has been considered. To drive this home, here is a break down of each product from the creation process to your front door...
1.) The start of your soap...
Products are created in Eco friendly containers, using safe metals & plastics. If it can be recycled, it was. Every scrap of soap not sold is saved & reused in another way.
Soaps are cured on recycled paper & then re-recycled, utilizing the full use of the papers life cycle. We rarely buy paper, and instead try to find other means of documentation & what not.
2.) What is added to each product...
Soaps are made using 100% vegan natural or certified organic ingredients. If we can buy locally & still maintain low prices, we do.
Nothing is tested on animals, but we do give a ton of samples out to test on humans for feedback!
The oils we use sometimes change as social issues do. For example, some bars had contained corn oil. With corn being in such a high demand right now, companies have begun to make way for corn farms by chopping down the rain forest. We do not want to support this, so corn oil has begun to get fazed out until such negative conditions seice to continue.
Each scented product is perfumed with only pure essential oils & never fake perfumes or oils cut with thinners. We add the oils in as a last step to each batch, so that temperatures allow for the oils to maintain it's health properties. This means, if you buy a bar of pomegranate lime soap, you are not only getting a great smelling soap but also you are showering your skin in antioxidants! Now that's got to feel excellent!
3.) The final steps...
Each bar is wrapped in recycled, biodegradable material. If we get a huge donation of old paper bags, we will use that. To add a bit of flare, products are decorated with local hemp.
As the times change, so do our products. We are not afraid to do things differently as often as needed to fulfil our goal to remain Eco awesome!
4.) Marketing & business considerations...
Our items are marketed online or by sample distribution. We do not pass out business cards or flyer's.
We do pass out clever stickers to the public on biodegradable backings.
These methods turn up results & turn down pressures on the planet.
The website we host off of is as green as it gets! Super Green Hosting powers their offices through wind power & anything left over gets balanced through carbon offset credits.
5.) Other efforts on a greater scale...
Each year Free Birdie makes annual donations to various organizations around the world. Both myself & those who work along side me, volunteer regularly to help our planet improve.
